Globular Cluster, Messier 10

Observing a globular cluster for the first time is a striking moment. What seems to be a smudge gradually resolves in thousands of pinpoint stars swarming around a central nucleus. They are generally ancient phenomena, literally billions of years old. Unlike the nebulae of Cygnus, Sagittarius and Cepheus they display no active star formation.
