The Horsehead Nebula

The Horsehead Nebula, a mixture of dark dust and ionised hydrogen gas, is one of the iconic sights of the northern hemisphere. Adjacent to it is the Flame Nebula illuminated by the super-bright star Alnitak, the left-most star of Orion’s belt. It is easy to locate with the naked eye in winter but the nebula is only revealed with the use of a telescope and camera.
