Western Veil Nebula
The Western Veil is an astronomical photo printed as a photopolymer gravure or etching and is a combination of hi-tech and low-tech processes. The nebula is a remnant of a star which cataclysmically exploded some ten or twenty thousand years ago leaving behind huge trails of ionised gas. It can be observed in a telescope in the right conditions where it displays the beauty of its textures and intricate woven strands of hydrogen and oxygen. The telescope and camera makes the invisible visible and reveals the enormity of the sky above so often ignored from our human perspective and the increasingly pervasive light pollution under which most of us live. The hand printing captures the delicacy and subtlety of the celestial light.
